About The Event

Mindfulness is the simple practice of noticing without judgment and returning to the present moment. Mindfulness-informed clinical interventions are well-established in peer review literature, and are great in assisting clients. In this workshop you will learn skills to use with clients and students to help with coping and distress tolerance . Mindfulness, dance, meditation, and yoga are modalities that can promote wellness and recovery, and the larger traditions of Gestalt psychotherapy and person-centered therapy have a rich tradition of drawing from their wisdom in clinical work. Expressive arts therapy in conjunction with yoga training in a trauma-informed system of care is instructed during this workshop as the primary avenue through which to access mindful awareness.

Class Objectives:

  • 1. Understand mindfulness from several different perspectives and how movement practices can fit the definition of mindfulness.
  • 2. Learn principals and practices of yoga and dance mindfulness
  • 3. Learn the benefits of a movement-based, holistic practice for emotional healing.
  • 4. Understand the use of Trauma Informed Care in Mindfulness and Safety Techniques
  • 5. How to facilitate a group of individuals in mindfulness practice using dance and yoga..
  • 6.How to implement practice of dance and yoga mindfulness in your business (i.e, yoga studio, clinical/program directors, schools etc.

About the Presenter(s):

Asha W. Sims, LCMHCS

Asha is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician, Holistic Wellness Practitioner and Yogi. She believes in promoting wellness and prevention of illness through holistic and preventive alternatives.  She is a leading clinician with over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health field. As CLinical Supervisor she incorporates alternataive and complmentary approaches in her treatment to provide an integrative approach in her modalities to aspiring clinicians.  She also has certifications as a Hypnotherapist and specializes in smoking cessation, weight loss, stress/anxiety, trauma/abuse, and past life regressions. She also has certifications that assist with resolving trauma and PTSD such as EMDR and Trauma Informed Yoga.  Her background in Chakra Therapy approach involves the integration and balancing of our core energy centers that affects our development, growth, and mental health.

Aiesha Bey, LCMHC

Aiesha is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician and is certified as a Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator through the Institution of Creative Mindfullnes in Ohio. Aisha is a co-founder of a non-profit, The FACTS Initiative organization where she enjoys working as a lead therapist to serve children and family units. Aisha also contracts with other agency serving as an outpatient therapist for both children and adults where she focuses on trauma treatment. Aisha has extensive training in treating trauma in clients with a specialty in childhood neglect. She enjoys engaging in expressive arts therapy as it can be hard to verbalize trauma and often needs to be expressed through the arts. Her favorite form of art is dancing, for her it’s like letting your soul free to tell its story. Aisha grew up attending a perform arts school where she learned dance and drama. She often incorporates those arts forms into her therapy, and that’s what makes her so unique. Dance has always been apart of her and she sought to figure out how to incorporate her passion of helping others heal with her love of dancing. As she began researching she came across dancing mindfulness, the art of being mindful as you began to move and explore your space, a new way to release but up stress and tension trapped in your body. As a certified facilitator Aisha runs groups for individuals looking for a creative way to express there feelings in space place support by a licensed therapist.

Credit Information:

COUNSELORS: Submitted for  NBCC-Approval ( Pending) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. This course qualifies for 12.0 clock hours.

YOGA INSTRUCTORS:

Credits listed above are for full attendance at the live event only. After attendance has been verified, pre-registered attendees will receive an email from Ashakti Wellness & Yoga LLC  with the subject line, “Evaluation and Certificate” within one week. This email will contain a link to complete the seminar evaluation and allow attendees to print, email or download a certificate of completion if in full attendance. For those in partial attendance (arrived late or left early), a letter of attendance is available through that link and an adjusted certificate of completion reflecting partial credit will be issued within 30 days (if your board allows). 

 NOTE: Boards do not allow credit for breaks or lunch.  If your profession is not listed, please contact your licensing board to determine your continuing education requirements and check for reciprocal approval.
